Upgrading to Smart Locks

I’ve been looking into smart locks for my home. They seem like a great security upgrade, but I’m curious about the real-life experiences of others. Have any of you installed one recently? How’s it working out for you in terms of convenience and safety?

I’ve installed a smart lock recently, and it can be a bit frustrating when it doesn’t connect to my phone or the Wi-Fi drops. However, the convenience of keyless entry is a game changer, especially when my hands are full. Just keep in mind if your door frame isn’t aligned perfectly, it might cause issues.

I hear you on the connection issues, they can be a pain. Just make sure to look for one that has good reviews for reliability, like the August Smart Lock — I’ve read it works well even if Wi-Fi gets shaky. How often do you think you’ll need to use the remote access features?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’ve found that using a smart lock with a physical keypad is really helpful for situations when my phone battery is low. It gives me some peace of mind knowing I can always get in. Have you thought about a backup method like that?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

If you’re leaning towards a smart lock, make sure it has a backup key option just in case. I had a moment where my phone wasn’t responding, and having that key saved me. Have you looked at any specific models yet, @taylor57k?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

I’ve had the August lock for a few months now, and it’s super convenient! Just a tip, make sure to check battery life regularly. How’s your search going?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

One thing I’ve noticed with smart locks is that they can be a bit finicky in colder weather. I had a friend whose lock wouldn’t respond outside during a cold snap, so it might be worth testing how it performs in all conditions. Have you thought about how often you might need to replace the batteries?
