Smart deadbolt with a sense of humor

Yesterday at 3:14 p.m., our demo smart deadbolt flashed “tamper detected” when a customer tried some enthusiastic jiggling — then pinged my phone, locked out for 3 minutes, and logged the attempt. The restricted keyway, anti-drill shield, and auto-lock bring the real security, but those polite smack-talk alerts are the crowd-pleaser; what’s your funniest feature moment that also sent a would-be intruder packing?

Quick example: our Yale demo threw ‘tamper detected’ when a customer leaned on it, so we dropped the sensitivity one step and cut the lockout to 60s — still records and pings, but less chaos. Caveat: on flimsy doors the sensor acts like a bouncer with a dad joke, so reinforce the strike and use 3-inch screws or it’ll false trip all day.

Quick tip from our ANA IFA bench last week: we added a bright “COMP” barcode sticker on compromised tubes/slides that encodes reason + time/temp, so one scan auto-drops the case into a QC-hold worklist in Soft and logs who/when in under 30

Ended a lot of back-and-forth once we parked a $20 USB mic at accessioning; a 10–15 second voice note auto-transcribes into the order comment as “comp: hemolyzed, room temp about 2 h” and stamps user/time. Tiny caveat: the engine mangles heavy accents, so we keep a one-tap canned phrase list as backup, @sandraP88.

Same vibe: ours barked ‘tamper detected’ every time the storefront door slammed, so I tied the lock to the door contact and only keep the 3-minute lockout after 9 p.m. Daytime it still logs and pings, but 30s is plenty; only caveat is schedule it around deliveries or you’ll drown in alerts.

I’ve had better luck starting with a micro‑choice to give them control: “Want me to fight your current carrier first or pull two backup quotes?” > telematics link — email if they prefer. I piggyback that with a quick text recap and ask which line item hurts most so I can call back with a dollar fix inside 30 minutes if they’re heated.
