We pull A2 pinning from Keystone Web via CSV into a bench tablet; a cheap Bluetooth scanner loads the right core ID from barcodes on work orders, and a Brother QL-800 (https://www.brother-usa.com/products/ql800) spits labels so the audit trail stays tied to each bag — “CSV in, labels out.” Framon #2 with the micrometer is still my accuracy workhorse, but for runs above about 300 cores I switch the straight cuts to an HPC 1200CM CodeMax for throughput and let the Framon handle problem codes. If you don’t have Keystone, the same flow works with a shared Google Sheet and CSV export from your MK software, turning the bench into a barcode checkout.
Ended up with a Raspberry Pi bench display that ingests SimpleK JSON via Node-RED (https://nodered.org) and shows the A2 pinning per core; a QR on each tray pulls the record, timestamps start/finish, and writes back for audit… Framon #2 + micrometer was fine to about 250 cores/day, but at 500–700 we moved to a Futura Edge so cutting wasn’t the bottleneck. Small caveat: @t_gray500’s label approach is solid, but Dymo 550’s chipped rolls pushed us to a Zebra ZD410 instead.
I push SimpleK’s export into an Airtable queue and trigger a Futura Edge to cut by code while an NFC tap on each tray starts/stops timestamps — “CSV in, audit out.” The manual code machine still earns its keep on oddball blanks, but past about 150 cores the electric wins on repeatability and clean logs… If Airtable’s not your thing, a lightweight Google Apps Script watching a Drive folder does the same job.
The Thermo vendor classes are what moved the needle for me on “pressure-decay leak checks” — build a tee/manifold with a calibrated digital manometer, time decay to a pass/fail slope, then verify with 5% span gas for your “2-point CO2 calibration.” What model incubators are you on and do you have a reference manometer (Dwyer/Fluke)? CBET prep boosted theory but didn’t speed bench work for me; pairing the class with a supervised PM day locked it in like finding a pinhole in a bike tube.
